Two lay on the table, legs flailing, one under my chair in the same position. I seldom saw them in Pennsylvania and never on the deck. Perhaps the snake who lived under the siding was delighted to have breakfast delivered. I try to avoid them having gotten one tangled in my hair. Scarabs, not the mystical Egyptian kind, are also known as May beetles, June bugs and July beetles. Two white moths rest on the railing. Cedar Waxwing, Tufted Titmouse, Northern Parula, Chestnut-sided Warbler and Red-eyed Vireo create the music of morning.
A bird must have just flown from that scrawny branch, the only branch moving. Mariah is not here to play with leaves although she has put some small green ones on the ground and moved dried brown leaves back into places I’ve swept. Rain begins.
Look! Saturday is performing her story.
