Perhaps sleeping, perched on the fence railing, a Hermit Thrush did not move as the three clattered outside. When it began to fly, the three noticed.

Like a brush stroke on primed canvas, pink in the sky. No sun. Wildflower sprouts: a green carpet, lupine leaves I recognize. Returning from years ago, already over a foot tall, several evening-primrose and slender amaranth thrive. Raspberry bushes dappled with white flowers. Two tiger swallowtail butterflies fascinate Zayne as they fly in and out of the fenced area, over the house, towards the pond.

Thursday began painting before we could decipher her faint tracings.
