I’ve reheated this not quite full coffee cup: half chocolate coconut three times. I should drink it. Unheard by me at six this smoke-scented morning: Cedar Waxwing, Chipping Sparrow, Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Northern Parula were recorded. My ears were filled with celestial ringing.
Later, before the second time I reheated this half-filled cup, Zsolt and Zayne played chase lifting up clouds of dust; then they sprawled on the deck by my chair to slow their breathing. Keeping bugs away, Mariah brought a cooling breeze; played with small whirlwinds blowing black dust at us. Making wider higher circles an eagle soars. Does he wonder what we’re doing? Does he ever lose his focus?
Foreign, the landscape where water has receded. Perhaps it looked this way on this day last year when I was not here.
Absence reveals secrets.
