Zsolt said good morning early asking when he would see me. Of course he may have been barking at the propane delivery. I doubt they begin rounds before 5. Ruger has abandoned his watchful place in the hall to seek the companionship of the other 2 and the comfort of their beds.

The sky is gray with cloud puffs imitating smoke. A few birds sing. I guess Ruger has had enough, he leaves the others and lies down beside my chair, a barrier between me and anything coming down the hall.

No one comes to the house. Not often. One morning, a young woman handing out pamphlets on Christianity appeared. I wonder if I placed a Beware of Dogs sign on the gate if anyone would open it? No one ever comes at night, except last night. There’s no doorbell and knocking on glass doesn’t create a reverberating sound. I was just out of the shower. I need to install the cameras to see what’s outside my door. The dogs were frantic. I wasn’t too keen on opening the curtain to see whoever was out there seeing me. I sent the Danes to their room. Zsolt dived under my desk, Zayne sat close to him ready to run at the slightest threat. That’s run away from the slightest threat. Standing in the hall between the threat at the door and the 2 Danes, I cajoled them into their room, closed the gate. They felt safe. They stopped barking. I opened the door to my son. He had waited patiently on the deck to tell me he had placed equipment by the container. He could’ve texted me. I always love seeing his face!

Joy arrives unexpectedly.
