Dense air greets as we step onto the deck. Not a cloud in the light gray sky, five birds sing anyway. Again, the odor of cool air trapped below warm bearing with humidity. I don’t sit down. I don’t count the group of tiny drops atop the fire pit cover. How could it rain in one spot so briefly?

While sitting on the deck last night: the ribs of heaven parted, revealed the profile of an Egyptian woman in a headdress; a headdress, tall like cartoon Marge Simpson’s hair. Nefertiti? She did not stay long looking at indistinct clouds; soon she became one.

Viewers seldom see the same things in clouds

like an abstract painting.

Keep looking.
