A Red-eyed Vireo was the first to speak joined by a Blue-headed Vireo, Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-throated sparrow, American Crow. A zip-it-up, cover-up morning. All but three of the next ten days to be in the 60s, nights colder. Another day of elevated fire danger.

Soleil visits the bookcase beside me: half the shelves dusted, reordered, more books leaving today. Ruger guards the hall, the other two snuggle back-to-back in bed. Coffee, not hazelnut, in the primary-blue cup tastes like wood smoke. I should turn on the make-believe fire.

A gust warned or expected flips pages before they've been read.
