May Eight

Sky blue. No clouds. White sun, bright, warming. Frost seen at 0340, vanished. The sound of Ruger roaming woke me, it doesn’t take much and if I’m still, the ringing in my ears stops, making it easier to hear. When we were outside in the wee hours 30* did not feel cold. Ruger doesn’t get up unless he needs something.

Grass, colors itself green, vibrant. Lily of the Valley sprouts through moss atop boulders. Birds stop morning proceedings briefly when we appear. There are some new voices joining: Red-breasted Nuthatch, American Goldfinch, Northern Parula, Song Sparrow, Ovenbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo, Black-throated Green Warbler. Gleepers last evening didn’t stop, they just kept gleeping while sensor lights came on went dark again.

There are things that startle, things we get used to.
