Timidly, very few speak under blue-peeking-through clouds sky: American Goldfinch, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Eastern Phoebe. Has the Ovenbird begun her flight to wintering places? The sky already displays her fall hue. Mosquitoes, spider strings absent.
Sun reflected briefly in muddy water, not moving, not seen climbing through leaves, just vanished. American Burnweed thrives in brushy residue greeting boulders. Deer flies haunt the black two. Perhaps that’s why Zayne rolls in the dirt, not in mornings, only when the sun has thoroughly warmed it.
We learn by watching but what is inate versus learned remains a mystery.
