Yesterday two Great Blue Herons flew alarmed by the sliding door. Ferns yellowed wave like wings beside receding stream, now brown. Last eve, halfway down the ramp the moon distinguished as more than light behind leaves. Crickets. Last night. This morning joined by a Blue Jay, a breeze. Sun. Blue sky. Grasshopper on fence, I thought might be grasped by the spider’s web, wasn’t.

Being close to something doesn’t make you part of it.
