The magic has returned. That feeling of awe, of wonder. It would be nice to sit, listen to the sound of water flowing. A fountain, yes! A fountain with a view of the woods – more magic. And probably more critters coming for a drink. Oh the conversations.
Zayne ran, jumped, looked – not so wary this morning. Soon he and Zsolt were raising clouds of dust as I positioned the cart outside the gate to wait for groceries.
Last night we invited Ruger to the front deck, for exploring. Steps to the earth, temporary, steep, no railing. Of course, he wanted to inspect them. Zsolt stood at the glass storm door watching; the distance between him and Chris shortening. This morning, following the sun up the hill something moved, difficult to distinguish among the leaves. I kept looking. Nothing moved. Nothing made a sound. Then. Again. My eyes focused on brown through leaves seeing deer.
Birds, so many – Eastern Wood-Pewee, Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Cape May Warbler, Common Raven, Blue Jay.
It is not magic that returns. It is a heart that opens.
