Lifted edge of blackout curtain to peer through glass door at 2, falling like darts the warned storm just beginning, an hour past forecast. At 5:30 darkness covers first landscape glimpse of 2026. Solar lights disclose snow I don’t sweep or shovel. The three go out, gather inside for drying, sit in kitchen for a biscuit, return to sleep. Last night halo around moon. Sky like a lumpy well-loved comforter.
We wait for sunrise.
