When I opened my eyes, leaf shadows flounced through slats in my blinds. I watched during prayers. The three are not shocked by the wintry chill, by the wind wrapping about them like a coat no one wants to wear. Zayne stops at the fence looking for minutes still as stone at something beyond. Not a full chorus, only 8 birds lift voices to overcast sky: American Crow, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, White-throated Sparrow, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, Magnolia Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo. Yesterday, a heron flying long legs dangling. Haven’t seen any in the pond.
Easier to see a bird flying than in the camouflage of its surroundings.
