The season of gleepers is past. I listened last night. Quiet. Discovered a tick in my hair after black flies urged me inside. With all the science, there’s no defense against, no vaccination. Air quality fair. Not a good day for breathing. Rain appears only in our forecast.

Shades of green, greens absent during winter know the moment they are destined to appear. Birds, dependable voices: American Crow, Blue Jay, Alder Flycatcher, American Goldfinch, Northern Parula, Red-eyed Vireo, Black-throated Green Warbler, American Redstart, Black-and-white Warbler, Ovenbird, Least Flycatcher, Magnolia Warbler, Common Yellowthroat. The rooster not heard. Traffic is loud. A constant rumbling heard through closed doors, large trucks on the road above.

Someone is building, filling, cementing.
