Yellow duck waiting for the hot tub still smiles atop my desk, looking through a glass of water toward the steaming primary blue coffee cup. The three unsettled. Zayne looking for nuggets that escaped the transfer of dog food from one bag to another. I hear the crunching. Ruger lies in the hall, blocks the path to me, to the giants' room, watches Zayne find what he didn’t. Zsolt on the sofa maybe. He’s not circling.

A Yellow Jacket Wasp aggressively inspects the cart on the deck for crevices to fill, to nest. They can sting more than once.  Yesterday, a pair of Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies and a Mourning Cloak. Zayne watched; did not bark. Sky, like tire tracks in snow. Frogs in the pond last night talking, no stars, no satellites, no moon. Merlin hears birds: Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Tufted Titmouse, American Robin, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Northern Cardinal, Cedar Waxwing, Common Yellowthroat, Eastern Phoebe, Magnolia Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, American Crow, Blue-headed Vireo, Ovenbird.

Wednesday is beginning.
