Bruise on my arm fading; petite vase Made in Italy chipped in two places, green, size of an eraser, unseen on the turquoise multi-colored rug, two pieces that will find bare feet or a vacuum nose. Metal flowers gathered, returned to the hand painted Made in Italy vase. Sterling and Noble clock returned to the top of the cabinet not working. I knew it might not work as a clock when I chose it at the second-hand store. I wanted the shape, the scrolling, the form, the continuous pleasure of looking; not looking for time, looking for presence. I never expected the cascade that began with the clock falling, gathering the metal flowers, the vase, the piece of art (another vase) framed with a blue mat.

Treasured things are often broken.
