Rain began after dinner, stopped at “Last Call” so the three did not need to be dried before bed. More rain fell overnight taming dust, painting bare wood, rolling off the umbrella. Morning dark, sky white. Ruger insistently spoke as I brushed my hair pleading to go back outside. I started the coffee dripping, slid the door. I lifted the gate latch to go in search of a picture. The sound was a stiff wind, but it wasn’t. Only some leaves moved. It was the sound of rain coming.

First assumptions are often wrong.
