Leaves dance through slats in the blind. I want to sleep but was mesmerized. Before light, about 0330 the giants and I were outside. Ruger stood up, laid back down. Chris had been doing laundry at last call--Zayne refused to come outside.

Merlin listens for birds, hears none. Mariah plays with leaves. The three clatter up and down the ramp for morning hugs, to talk about dreams. No spider strings. No traffic noises. Candles glow on windowsills. Today may not bring enough light to extinguish them. I need a better coffee cup, not metal, one that keeps my coffee hot through morning rituals. No place to plug in a warming plate, nor a place to sit one.

Coffee cools at an unknown rate, rituals move at a defined pace.
