Speaking the voice of flight, perhaps giving directions, six geese fly northwest in a winged line. Tiny green leaves unfurl into the space between branch and sky, blue paints a mountain on the horizon. Sun white, veiled in the peach of rising. The three want to remain, enjoy their time outdoors before things fly into their eyes, disturb their being. Merlin and I listen for birds: Northern Parula, Tufted Titmouse, Eastern Phoebe, American Goldfinch, Gray Catbird, Black-capped Chickadee, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Black-throated Green Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo, Northern Yellow Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, Canada Goose.

Song dissolves the long quiet of winter.
