Layers of peach, robin’s egg blue sky before sunrise. Dew, not frost. Bright sun. No gleepers at last call. A moon where I don’t usually see it. Dandelions. Black flies. Varied greens: on trees, moss on rocks, Lily of the Valley, ferns, Lupine, unidentified wildflowers without blossoms. Birds sing: Black-and-white Warbler, American Goldfinch, Northern Waterthrush, White-throated Sparrow, American Redstart, Red-winged Blackbird, Hermit Thrush, Black-capped Chickadee, Black-throated Green Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Blue Jay, Ovenbird, Chestnut-sided Warbler. Another sound unidentified, not bird, not song but a pattern of sound, repeated at intervals, calling. The day already feels warm.

Time to close the curtains.
