Ruger began antibiotics last night. He came to my door moving easily this morning as I buttoned my dress. We went to the kitchen. He had no trouble getting up. He did not move in slow motion like the last few days. He wagged his tail, eyes bright, ears like radar. An older man at the vet's office had called him a wolf. I placed the blue cup to catch the drops of coffee, pushed the button. Slid the door to blue sky, sun behind leaves, muddy pond, swarming deer flies; Red-eyed Vireo singing a lively solo.

Last evening as I was sliding the door, a wasp trailing a piece of grass like a tail eased itself inside an oblong vent in the door casing. I have been trying to keep them out of the eave vents without much success. I’ve seen birds carry grass, never a wasp. Checking this out online revealed: In built environments, grass-carrying wasps will choose a variety of artificial cavities, as long as the size and shape are right. For example, the tracks of storm window frames and other cracks and crevices on the exterior of structures represent perfectly suitable locations for grass-carrying wasp nests.      After providing a whole biscuit to each of the three, I turned to put cream in the coffee, in the blue cup. There was not enough coffee to drink, only a few drops.

To make coffee, one must add water to the pot.
